Coast Guard assists Hatteras charter boat taking on water

Coast Guard helicopter and boat crews helped eight people on oboard the Good Times after they ran in to trouble Thursday about 30 miles southeast of Hatteras Inlet. The charter boat safely made it back to shore for repairs.

Shawn Hughes, fleet maintenance supervisor with the Public Works department, is the Dare County Employee of the Month for July 2018. He began working as a mechanic in the Fleet Maintenance Division in June 1996.

State officials advise against swimming in local waters

State recreational water quality officials are advising the public to avoid swimming in coastal waters in Dare and Currituck counties due to high rainfall and flooding that could lead to excessive bacteria.

Two Dare residents arrested on heroin trafficking charges

Wesley Taylor Foster, 29 of Southern Shores and Tina Michelle Davis, 35, of Kill Devil Hills were arrested during a traffic stop on July 3. Both were charged with felony trafficking, after a large quantity of heroin was found in their vehicle.

Dare commissioners recognize FFHS state champions

FFHS Women's Soccer team, along with Alex Rodman, track, and Jeremy Derby, wrestling, were recognized recently as state championship winners. The team is joins the 2008 Women’s Team and the 2016 Men’s Team in bringing home a state title.
