NC12 to remain closed overnight

Due to the hazardous conditions currently affecting clearing operations on NC12, and given that the forecast is calling for weather with similar conditions overnight, NC12 from the Marc Basnight Bridge at Oregon Inlet to Rodanthe will remain closed until weather conditions provide for safe and productive clearing efforts.

Limited visibility, severe ocean overwash, and continued blown sand on the roadway have contributed to the unsafe conditions NCDOT crews are experiencing. Ocean overwash is expected to affect NC12 again Sunday night and possibly Monday with tides and wind forecast to relax by sometime midday Monday. NCDOT clearing efforts will resume at such time the weather conditions improve to allow for safe operations.
