Hatteras schools closed Monday, Ocracoke delayed

By on November 17, 2019

The weekend storm slowly leaving our area has cancelled and delayed some school classes on the Outer Banks. The Dare County Schools announced this evening that due to inclement weather conditions, Cape Hatteras Elementary School and Cape Hatteras Secondary School will be closed for staff and students on Monday, Nov. 18. All other Dare County schools will operate on a regular schedule.

The Ocracoke School Campus will start classes at 11:55 a.m. on Monday due to flooding. Conditions will be reevaluated mid-morning on Monday.

And an update from the National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City says that winds will continue to diminish through Monday morning, but minor coastal flooding continues along portions of the sounds and ocean overwash continues for portions of the Outer Banks.

The NWS cautions drivers to heed the advice of local officials and do not drive around barricades or through flooded areas.
