On Thursday, November 7th , 2019 at approximately 5:05 p.m. Kill Devil Hills Police, Fire and Dare County EMS responded to a collision involving serious injury. The collision occurred at US 158 and W. Avalon Drive and involved a Chevy Tahoe and a Harley Davidson motorcycle.
Based on the investigation of the collision it was determined that the driver of the Harley was stopped at the stop sign on W. Avalon Drive waiting to turn left (north) at the intersection. The motorcycle driver proceeded to make her left turn but failed to appreciate the proximity of a white Chevy Tahoe traveling south on US 158. She pulled out in the path of the oncoming vehicle, resulting in the collision.
All lanes of US 158 were blocked for approximately 1 hour as life saving measures and the investigation were conducted. The driver of the motorcycle was air lifted to a Virginia hospital and remains in critical condition. She is a 54-year-old Kill Devil Hills resident, but further details about her identity are not being disclosed at this time pending family notification. The Tahoe driver was a 68-year-old resident of Kitty Hawk. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor at this time.
