ECU Integrated Coastal Programs and the Coastal Studies Institute (CSI) are hosting a lecture on local National Wildlife Refuges as part of its “Science on the Sound” lecture series. This series, held monthly, highlights information on coastal topics and issues in northeast North Carolina.
This month, the program will feature Dr. Becky Harrison, Supervisory Wildlife Biologist at Alligator River and Pea Island National Wildlife Refuges. Dr. Harrison’s presentation, entitled “Exploring National Wildlife Refuges in Northeastern North Carolina” will highlight the research and education programs of Alligator River and Pea Island National Wildlife Refuges and what guests can expect when these visit these fascinating wild places. The program will be held at 6:00PM on Thursday, November 21 at the Coastal Studies Institute located on the ECU Outer Banks Campus at 850 NC 345 in Wanchese, NC. The presentation is free, and the public is welcomed and encouraged to attend.
Together, Alligator River and Pea Island National Wildlife Refuges contain over 250 square miles of refuge lands with habitats varying from pocosin wetlands to sandy beaches. These habitats support a wide variety of native wildlife and plant species and offer many opportunities for research and education. During the program, Dr. Harrison will discuss the refuges in our area, their unique features, and the current research and education programs offered within them.
This program will be streamed live at https://www.youtube.com/unccsi and the online viewing audience will be able to ask the presenter questions via an online chat room.
