COA campus in Elizabeth City on lockdown

There have been reports today from various local television outlets, including WTKR-TV, that the College of Albemarle campus in Elizabeth City and Sentara Albemarle Medical Center are currently on lockdown as a result of a nearby situation. There is reportedly no direct threat to the campus.

This is the most recent statement posted by the Camden County Sheriff’s Department this afternoon. “COA is currently on lock down as a precaution because of a wanted suspect across the road in the wooded area. I know some parents are concerned and have been inquiring as to what is going on. The students will be released as soon as it is determined to be safe and/or the suspect is in custody.”
