Public hearing on Dominion rate hike slated for Aug 7 in Manteo

By on August 3, 2019

On March 29, 2019, Virginia Electric and Power Company, doing business as Dominion Energy North Carolina (Dominion), filed a request to increase its rates for electric service. Under Dominion’s proposal, a typical residential customer using 1,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity would see a monthly bill in the winter increase from about $108 to about $118. Similarly, a typical residential customer using 1,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity would see a monthly bill in the summer increase from about $122 to about $134. For residential customers, Dominion’s proposed increase would be about 9%. Dominion proposes that the basic customer charge would increase from $10.40 to $11.92 per month.

The North Carolina Utilities Commission has scheduled three public hearings to take testimony from Dominion customers regarding the proposed rate increase as well as potential service quality concerns. In Dare County, that public hearing will be on Wednesday, Aug. 7, at 7 p.m. at the Superior Courtroom, Dare County Courthouse, 962 Marshall Collins Dr, Manteo

Customers can also submit a written statement to the Commission via email. Be sure to include the docket number (Docket No. E-22 Sub 562) in the subject line. Another option is to mail a statement to the Commission at 4325 Mail Service Center, Raleigh, NC 27699-4300. In either case, after two or three business days statements are made part of the official record for the proceeding, and can be viewed on this website via the assigned docket number.

The Public Staff – North Carolina Utilities Commission is a separate, independent agency that represents the using and consuming public in matters before the Commission, including rate increase requests like this one. You can send the Public Staff a statement, or ask them a question, via email.

The Commission has also scheduled an evidentiary hearing for expert witness testimony which will begin at 2 pm on September 23 and likely last for several days. There will not be an opportunity for public comments at this hearing, but the public is welcome to attend. The evidentiary hearing will be held in Commission Hearing Room 2115 in the Dobbs Building, 430 N Salisbury, Raleigh.

the wasteful and destructive behemouth known as dominion energy is trying to raise rates in N.C. as in Va. and indiana. the rate payers are funding the failed dirty fracked gas pipelines that are marching over top of private lands. this effort is to fund non essential dirty gas to be shipped overseas if it does not explode or leak as it has done continually.
