Save the date: 30th Annual OBAR Charity Golf Tournament

2018 winning team: Weatherly Insurance.

Nags Head, NC, May 13, 2019.  Save the date for the Outer Banks Association of REALTORS® 30th Annual Charity Golf Tournament benefiting the Association’s Scholarship & Disaster Relief Funds.

The tournament is scheduled for Friday, May 31st at Kilmarlic Golf Club and is open to the public. Last year, the Weatherly Insurance Team led by Scott Weatherly won the coveted Heritage Cup Trophy with a score of 55. The event raised over $14,000 that was equally divided between the two funds.

According to Committee Chair Anne Morrisette, of Hodges Appraisals, “It is going to be an amazing event with raffle prizes, food, and some good old-fashioned rivalries all in the name of two great causes: OBAR’s Disaster Relief & Scholarship Funds.”

For the second year in a row, 2017 International Long Drive Challenge (ILDC) Team Champion Jacob Golliday, known on Instagram as Jesus of Golf and a graduate of First Flight High School, will be on the 18th hole. For a donation, players can use Golliday’s drive.

Jacob Golliday, 2017 ILDC Team Champion, will be returning to this year’s tournament.

Says 2018 Committee Chair, Kathie Nesbitt, of Wells Fargo Home Mortgage, “At first, people were hesitant to use his long drive. But then suddenly it seemed everyone wanted to and teams on the 17th hole could hear the club hit the ball long before they got to the tee box.”

This is the 11th year that Kilmarlic Golf Club and OBAR have partnered together for the charity tourney. Says Director of Golf Bryan Sullivan, “I love hosting this tournament because it gives kids in this community a chance to reach their dreams and goals. Plus, it is great to work with the OBAR staff and Board.”

On the day of the event, check-in begins at 11:30A and the shot gun start begins at 12:30P. T-Busters, Mulligans, & raffle tickets will be available the day of the event. The raffle prizes, donated by generous local businesses, will be awarded after attendees enjoy a delicious buffet prepared exclusively for the event.

Since my husband works full time, if I want to go to the beach during the day, I’m flying solo with the kids, so a simple beach haul is key. Aside from beach towels and beach chairs, only six things make it into the beach bag that I carry.

  • Slow down and enjoy the slow-food movement

Something that has helped me slow down and focus is considering how what I’m looking at was made and the effort that went into it. It’s mind-blowing to consider how many people worked all along the chain for me.

  • New and Easy Way to Find Open Houses in the OBX

It was a random idea that came to fruition during a meeting between Outer Banks Association of REALTORS® (OBAR) CEO, Willo Kelly and Multiple Listing Services (MLS) Committee Chair, Richard Hess right before a planned MLS Committee Meeting. Says Kelly, “The idea was simple: Why not have a Facebook page that lists Open Houses in our area so potential buyers only have to go to one site to find their dream home?” The idea was unique because no other Association in North Carolina has created anything like it.
