Improvements at Ocean Bay access to include handicap ramp

By on March 10, 2019

Parts of the Ocean Bay beach access at milepost 7.5 are temporarily closed while improvements are being made.

The wooden walkover, stairs, and ramp at the Ocean Bay beach access will be temporarily closed while they are being replaced. In addition, a new handicap ramp is being installed.

The entire access is expected to re-open at the beginning of April. Bathrooms will remain open and citizens can still access the beach by using the sand walkover, to the immediate right of the building.

The improvements are being done in preparation of designating Kill Devil Hills’ first fully handicap accessible beach access.

A handicap ramp will be installed, allowing wheelchairs to get from the parking lot to the sand. A roll out mat will also be set up, permitting wheelchairs access to the ocean.
