Dare County Soil & Water and the Department of Public Works recently assisted the North Carolina Coastal Federation with a cleanup along a soundside shore on Hatteras Island.
A group of 30 volunteers met at the Rodanthe Waves Salvo Community Center to remove debris that had been pushed onto the site following Hurricane Michael.
Over 3,500 pieces of debris, weighing approximately five tons, were removed.
The event was held as a kick-off for the North Carolina Coastal Federation’s Lost Fishing Gear Recovery Project.
