New Netflix “OBX” series might be filmed in South Carolina

A new series about the Outer Banks is coming to Netflix, but due to lingering effects of North Carolina’s controversial “bathroom bill,” it likely won’t be filmed anywhere near here.

“OBX,” created by Wilmington resident Jonas Pate, follows a summer of change for four teenagers in a fictional Outer Banks town after a hurricane knocks out all outside communication.

Pate told the Wilmington Star News that Netflix, which has yet to officially announce the series, has picked it up for 10 episodes with plans to start shooting this spring.

Production was set for Wilmington, but it might go to to Charleston, S.C.  because of provisions of the partially repealed HB2, which required people to use gendered bathrooms based on their biological sex.

Pate said Netflix doesn’t like a particular clause in the replacement bill, one that forbids towns and cities from passing anti-discrimination ordinances to skirt the bill’s requirements.

That clause expires at the end of 2020, but Pate told the Star News that if state lawmakers can push to end it sooner, the show might still be filmed in North Carolina.

Who wants a show that will attract more people to the OBX? Hotel and motel owners I suppose. How about a show about how nice the OBX is in the off season?

@Really: I don’t send subscription money to Netflix. I actually have a life and don’t sit in front of a screen all day and allow my mind to turn to Jello.

Really?

Who cares? They don’t mind accepting your subscription money from NC.

Making “Merica Great Again! Lol! I’m “not cool” with our state losing hundreds of millions of $$$$ because our state is donkey backwards on a lot of things.

Hey Mr Cool, you cool with a 17th century mindset? Are you a wall builder?

Really?

Let me bring up the obvious FACT that OBV won’t. Netflix pretends to stand on some “moral” high ground on N.C. HB2 yet have no problem collecting subscription fees from everyone in N.C. So they are okay collecting money from N.C. but “morally” they don’t want to spend money in N.C.?? All credibility is lost IMO.

This sounds like a bad “ABC After School Special”.

Cool with this

Yeah I’m cool with not having a random Netflix show filmed in the OBX. If the requirement is to have little girls and boys confused because a member of the opposite sex “identifies” as their sex and can now use the bathroom next to them. Society is just becoming too weird and PC these days.

Getting local
