The driver of a concrete truck was taken to an area hospital for treatment after the rig overturned Tuesday morning on N.C. 12 in Corolla.

Emergency crews were called at 8:17 a.m. to the scene of the single vehicle wreck across from Monteray Plaza.

The Highway Patrol said the driver entered a curve too fast and the vehicle started to tip, fell onto the driver’s side and slid for about 100 feet.

Some of the concrete spilled from the truck, and it took several hours to right the vehicle and clear the roadway. Traffic was rerouted through the shopping center.

The driver, a 33-year-old man from Elizabeth City, was cited for exceeding safe speed for conditions of the curve. He was treated for minor injuries at The Outer Banks Hospital and released.
