Mariah Moore, a Manns Harbor resident studying at East Carolina University, was killed in a head-on crash Tuesday morning in Martin County.

Moore, 22, lost control of her car when a tire blew about 10 a.m. on Highway 171, WITN News reports. The car crossed the center lane and truck an oncoming car, seriously injuring the driver, 18-year-old Morgan Taylor of Williamston.

The state highway patrol told the station a driver in front of Taylor’s car “saw light smoke coming from the back of Moore’s vehicle as it passed her, and then in her rearview mirror saw the car fishtail and hit the other car.”

Moore was studying fashion merchandising and business administration at ECU.
