At their Dec. 5 meeting, Nags Head’s Board of Commissioners named Deputy Finance Director Kim Blankenburg as the winner of the Town’s 2018 Earl Murray Jr. Employee of the Year award.

Presented by the Board each December, the award, named after Police Sgt. Earl Murray, who died in the line of duty in May 2009, recognizes Town employees who have shown excellence in attitude toward the public and co-workers, performance, quality of work, willingness to cooperate with others and attendance.

The award recipient, chosen from a list of nominations presented by Town department heads, receives a plaque and a cash award.

Blankenburg began her career with Nags Head in 2013. As the deputy finance officer, she oversees the day-to=day operations of the Administrative Services Department.

“Kim leads by example through her work ethic, her thoughtfulness of work, attention to detail, quality timeliness and accuracy of distributed information,” said Finance Officer Amy Miller.

“She has an open mind and continually thinks about how processes can be improved and what the smartest way to do business really is. Kim keeps rising to the occasion and setting a really high bar as we continually evolve and reinvent expectations in a dynamic work environment.”

This year’s nominees were: Public Works Office Manager Karen Heagy; Police Officer Ben Jadoff; Deputy Finance Director Kim Blankenburg; Code Enforcement Officer Ed Snyde; FFire Fighter/Driver Operator Tanner Mann

“Nags Head’s Board felt that Kim has consistently exceeded the normal scope of her responsibilities to ensure that our work processes are modernized and efficient,” said Nags Head Mayor Ben Cahoon.

“This is an incredibly tough decision for our Board; we have a committed team of hardworking employees, who are proud of the work they do to help the people of Nags Head.”
