A 37-year-old Kill Devil Hills man has been charged with felony death by motor vehicle after a pedestrian was struck and killed Friday night in front of the RC 10 Movie Theater.

The victim, 55-year-old Guy Vanderver, also of Kill Devil Hills, was crossing near 1822 N. Croatan Highway when he was hit by a northbound vehicle about 9:40 p.m.

The driver, Michael Draper, was served a search warrant for blood to determine if alcohol was a factor, said Kill Devil Hills police Capt. J.C. Towler Jr. The outcome of that testing has not been released.

Draper was charged with felony death by motor vehicle, Towler said.

“Our agency has had reports of people claiming to have witnessed the incident on various social media sites, however no witnesses have come forward other than those found at the scene at the time,” he said. “We encourage anybody who witnessed this incident to call.”

Anyone with information should call the police department at 252-449-5337 during regular business hours or you can leave a message after hours. Request to speak with Sgt. Mike Sudduth.
