A Kill Devil Hills man arrested last month for allegedly breaking into a Southern Shores sub shop now faces similar counts for crimes police say were committed in Nags Head.

Vashon James, II, 18, was already in custody following an Oct. 28 break-in of the Jersey Mike’s at The Marketplace shopping center.

Southern Shores Police charged James with felony breaking and entering, felony larceny and misdemeanor damage to property.

Nags Head Police said Monday he has been charged with three counts of felony breaking and entering, three counts of felony larceny and two counts of safecracking related to thefts from the Subway, Tropical Smoothie Cafe and OBX Bowling Center between Sept. 19 and 25.

Nags Head officers, working in conjunction with the Southern Shores Police Department, were able to identify similarities between the burglary in Southern Shores and the Nags Head thefts, according to a news release.

“This is a perfect example of law enforcement agencies working together to solve crimes,” said Nags Head Interim Police Chief Perry Hale. “We appreciate being able to collaborate with the other local law enforcement agencies to make our communities safer.”

Hale expressed thanks to the public for the leads generated after a video from the Tropical Smoothie burglary was posted to the town’s Facebook page.
