Dumpsters set up as temporary bear solution to be removed

By on October 22, 2018

Dare County will remove the two refuse dumpsters at the Manns Harbor Community Building placed there for residents wanting to avoid problems with bears.

The dumpsters at 6677 U.S. 64/264 were originally provided for residents while a solution to the bear problem was developed. They will be removed Friday, Oct. 26.

Dare County Public Works now has a limited number of bear-resistant trash cans available for purchase by residents in bear-populated areas.

The roll-off carts feature a special locking mechanism that make them bear-resistant and are being offered at the same rate as regular replacement cans: $85.40 for those picked up at the Public Works office in Manteo or $96.08 delivered.

For more information about the bear-resistant cans or to place an order and make payment, call Dare County Public Works at 252-475-5895 Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
