By on October 10, 2018

Currituck County Public Schools will dismiss one-hour early Thursday, Oct. 11 and all after school activities are canceled ahead of the remnants of Hurricane Michael.

The Outer Banks is under a tropical storm warning Thursday into Friday, and Currituck County under a high wind warning, as the remnants of the Category 4 storm move into the area.

“Forecasts indicate tropical storm winds for our area starting around 8 p.m.,” school officials said in a Facebook post. “We are closing early to insure that all students, bus drivers, and staff members are released well ahead of the forecasted storm’s arrival. Staff members will be given one hour of forgiven time.”

School officials say they will monitor the storm’s movement and revise schedules as needed. A decision about school Friday will be made based on mid-day Thursday forecasts.
