Pam Matthews, lead driver with Dare County Transportation, is the October 2018 Dare County Employee of the Month. Public Services Director Tim White presented Matthews with the award at the Octt. 1 Board of Commissioners meeting.

Matthews began working for Dare County in January 2010 as a part-time transportation driver. In 2015, she was promoted to lead driver.

“Pam is the most pleasant employee in Dare County. She comes to work every day with a smile on her face and always goes above and beyond for our customers,” White said.

According to Transportation Director Don Cabana, “Pam has excelled at her position over the past 3 years. She not only performs her job duties but serves as a backup for the scheduler. I often get calls from our clients and staff wanting to thank Pam for being so understanding and caring in regards to their needs. She has a calm and understanding way with our clients.”

During Hurricane Florence, she accompanied a driver to Raleigh to pick up Dare County residents who had been transported to a shelter there during the evacuation.

After arriving in Raleigh, she was notified that some of citizens had been taken to a different shelter in Clayton. Pam made arrangements to get to Clayton and pick them up.

“With Pam’s help, all Dare County residents who evacuated with assistance from Dare County Transportation made it home safely,” said White.
