Downtown Books features authors, pop-up rum tasting Friday

By on October 3, 2018

Two authors will be at Downtown Books in Manteo Oct. 5 during First Friday festivities.

Dwayne Walls Jr. will be on hand to discuss his book, “Backstage at the Lost Colony,” a tribute to the iconic local play told in photographs, anecdotes and memories.

Charles Oldham will also be there with his recently released book “The Senator’s Son,” which revisits the disappearance of 8-year-old Kenneth Beasley from the playground of his school in Currituck County in 1905.

A political rival of his father was eventually charged and taken to trial, but today the mystery remains unsolved.

Both authors will be at Downtown Books from 5 to 8 p.m.

Oldham will also be signing books at Duck’s Cottage Coffee & Books in Duck on Saturday Oct. 6 from 9-11a.m.

The rum boys from Outer Banks Distillery will also be in the house with a pop-up tasting table featuring Kill Devil Rum.

First Friday is a free, family-friendly event featuring live music throughout downtown, restaurant specials, art show openings, wine tastings, book signings and more. For more information visit or call 252-473-1056. Downtown Books is at 105 Sir Walter Raleigh St.
