Stephanie Walker, 2019-2022 NAR Board of Directors, and 2019 Leadership Law and Policy Committee Liaison.

Congratulations to Stephanie Walker, REALTOR®, ABR,CRS,GRI,SRES of Stephanie Walker & Associates, on her election to the 2019 Board of Directors for the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR).

Walker has been a member of the Outer Banks Association of REALTORS® (OBAR) since 1987.  Having served as President of OBAR in 2002, she has represented REALTORS® on a local, state and national level.

Among her many accolades, she was also elected as the 2011 President of the North Carolina REALTORS® (NCR), as well as serving on many local, state and national committees.

Said Stephanie on her win, “I will make certain the voices of the North Carolina REALTORS® are heard at the national level, especially because we are from a community that is so unique not only in North Carolina, but also in the nation.  I am dedicated to being available for you to pick up the phone or send an email to have a current issue addressed expeditiously. And I couldn’t have done it without the support and hard work of OBAR!”

Directors for NAR are determined through state association elections and must serve a 3-year term.  Voting for the NC REALTOR® Elections began on Monday, Aug. 13 and ended last night at 11:59 p.m.  This year’s election was contested, with five candidates from across North Carolina running for only four positions with the National Association’s Board of Directors.  Walker was the only candidate from the region that includes the Outer Banks.

This has been a big week for Stephanie as she was also appointed to the 2019 REALTOR® Leadership Law and Policy Committee Liaison position with the REALTOR® Party of the NAR.  As the only advocacy group in America that fights exclusively for homeownership, real estate investment, strong communities and the free enterprise system, the REALTOR® Party focuses on the issues that matter to existing and future homeowners and the real estate industry.

Committee Liaisons, appointed by the President of NAR, serve as a conduit for communication between the Leadership Team and their assigned committees, help committees operate effectively, and help identify future committee leaders.  Congratulations on both accomplishments Stephanie Walker!

It was a random idea that came to fruition during a meeting between Outer Banks Association of REALTORS® (OBAR) CEO, Willo Kelly and Multiple Listing Services (MLS) Committee Chair, Richard Hess right before a planned MLS Committee Meeting. Says Kelly, “The idea was simple: Why not have a Facebook page that lists Open Houses in our area so potential buyers only have to go to one site to find their dream home?” The idea was unique because no other Association in North Carolina has created anything like it.

No need for fancy DIY skills, a lot of money, or a ton of time to pull off these yard upgrades. It’s your yard — yours to do with as you wish. And while that’s great, that doesn’t mean you have to be one of those people who spends every spare moment in their yard, sprucing it up.

  • Craigslist real estate scams on the rise again in the OBX

Last year, the Outer Banks Association of REALTORS® (OBAR) began warning residents of the OBX to be on the look out for scams involving long and short-term rentals on Craigslist. Scammers have begun posting ads on Craigslist looking for potential renters and offer extremely low prices. Some of these ads list legitimate rental companies in the Outer Banks.
