Two people, including a volunteer firefighter, were in stable condition at a Virginia Beach hospital after being struck by lightning Tuesday night on the Currituck Outer Banks.

Crews from the Carova Beach Volunteer Fire Department were called to a house in the 200 block of Crane Street to investigate a possible lightning strike, according to Currituck Fire and EMS Chief Chip Melton.

Melton said at approximately 8:45 p.m., both a firefighter and a civilian were struck by another lightning bolt.

They were taken to Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital for treatment.
