Katherine Schuster of Kill Devil Hills finished in a tie for third at the 62nd Carolinas Junior Girls’ Championship in Durham.

The rising sophomore at First Flight High School shot a four-over-par 220 at Croasdaile Country Club, after carding a 2-over 73 on Wednesday and capping the final round with a birdie on No. 18.

Schuster shot a one-under-par during a rainy Tuesday to pull within two shots of second-round leader Abigail Schimpf of Daniel Island, S.C., ending the tournament tied with Schimpf.

Maria Atwood of Holly Springs won her first CGA title with a two-under-par 70 on the last day of play to finish at an overall score of one-over-par 217.

Schuster has qualified for the U.S. Girls Junior Championship at Poppy Hills in Pebble Beach, Calif., next month, after finishing third in the regional qualifier last week in Thomasville.

She won her age division at the Drive, Chip and Putt National Championship at Augusta National Golf Club in April, and will be defending her North Carolina high school 2A state championship this fall.

Bailee Twiford of Coinjock, a rising senior at Currituck High School, tied for 33rd with a score of 240, 24-over-par, 240.
