Margaret Desmond, formerly of Kitty Hawk, May 24

By on June 14, 2018

Margaret Desmond was called to her eternal rest on May 24, 2018. “Peggy”, as she was known, was born on January 22, 1931, in Yonkers, NY, the daughter of the late William and Claire Carnegie.

In 1956, she married the late Frank Desmond in Yonkers, NY. Mr. Desmond predeceased Peggy while proudly serving in the U.S. Navy in the 1950’s.

After living in New York State and working in the dry-cleaning business for many years, Peggy retired to Flagler Beach, Florida in the 1980’s. She moved to Kitty Hawk, NC in the 1990’s to care for her sister, Joan Barbey and lived there until Joan passed away in 2010.

For the past eight years, Peggy has lived and been lovingly cared for by her nephew, Peter Barbey and his wife, Maureen in Rockland County, NY.

In addition to Joan, Peggy also survived her twin sister, Reenie, and her older sister, Claire. She is survived by her younger sister, Barbara and her family of West Ghent, NY and numerous nieces and nephews from New York to California.

To know Peggy was to love Peggy. She was a loving and caring soul who treated everyone she met as a friend. Her incredibly unselfish and giving nature made everyone feel as though they were family. In a word, Peggy could be described as a “caregiver”. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, June 19, 2018, at Southern Shores Cemetery.

Twiford Funeral Home, Manteo is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed at
