Beer and burgers on the beach. It’s a combination that just sounds, and tastes, right.

Jack Brown’s Beer and Burger Joint has opened on the Beach Road at milepost 8.5 in Kill Devil Hills, bringing a one-of-a-kind style and flavor that started in Harrisonburg, Va.

Jack Brown’s is a bar that happens to sell a really good burger, and the menu is purposely simple. According to their website, this is not a restaurant that tries to please all tastes.

Brent Hill owns and operates the Outer Banks location at what was once the infamous Mex-econos, and more recently the F.O.E. Lodge

The taps are rotated to offer regulars a new taste every time.

Hill teamed up with co-founders Mike Sabin and Aaron Ludwig in 2014, not long after they opened the first Jack Brown’s in Harrisonburg. Hill helped with their expansion into Richmond’s West End, downtown Norfolk on Granby Street and in the heart of Uptown Greenville.

He brings his years of experience in the restaurant business to the Outer Banks and has hired Joint Manager Chaz Blevins to lead his team.

Sabin and Ludwig designed Jack Brown’s as “the bar that they would want to hang out in, and since they grew up as drinking buddies, it wasn’t too difficult a task.”

“You will walk away feeling like it is your place,” Hill said about the vibe at the KDH location.

Jack Brown’s makes it simple: Burgers, fries, beer.

The burgers are 100 percent all natural wagyu beef. Don’t ask for lettuce and tomato, because the burgers are prepared simple and basic, and the specials are a creative twist on an American classic.

But some or their specialty burgers are built with peanut butter, house-made guacamole or black bean-corn queso and more.

They choose to focus on doing one thing and doing it really well. One of their most popular specialty burgers is the “Greg Brady” with homemade mac and cheese, American and cheddar blend cheese and Martins BBQ potato chips.

All sauces and toppings are made right there in the kitchen, and their Jack Brown’s sauce or “crack sauce” is something you have to try for yourself.

If you’re not in the mood for a burger they can make a mean grilled cheese too.

Ask about the 100 Notch Club, details coming soon.

Choose between crinkle-cut french fries or sweet potato fries for a side. And then there’s a State Fair favorite for dessert: Fried Oreo.

They stock up to 120 exciting varieties of craft beer, ranging from local darlings to rare beers from around the world.

Hill added that if the burgers and the brew don’t get you, the atmosphere will. You will see something different every time you come in.

The staff is the “special sauce” that brings all of this together. They have all been trained to guide you through the world of craft beer and crazy burgers and to make sure you have a good time.

“The beer’s good, burgers too, but it’s the people and how they make you feel that brings you back” Hill said.

Jack Brown’s Beer And Burger Joint is now open at 800 South Virginia Dare Trail in Kill Devil Hills. 252-715-3328. https://www.jackbrownsjoint.com

I live near the Harrisonburg restaurant and will chime in to say that their burgers are awesome! Definitely unique, and well worth a try…even the odd ones you may not think would be good – I’ve not yet been disappointed. I don’t drink and am not interested in the bar atmosphere, so the outside seating at the Harrisonburg location is perfect…hopefully KDH has the same option for those who might not otherwise be willing to give it a try.
