Two men were arrested by members of the Dare County Narcotics Task Force Tuesday after a large quantity of heroin was found in their vehicle, according to Kitty Hawk Police Chief Joel Johnson.

Johnson said the arrests were made at 7:16 p.m. as part of an investigation into heroin trafficking. The two men were on their way back from Virginia, he said.

Bond was first set at $100,000 for Claude Renaud, 63, of Southern Shores, but was later increased to $400,000, Johnson said. Renaud was previously arrested on heroin charges in September of 2012 and April of 2013.

Christopher P. Summerow, 29, of Nags Head was released on $20,000 secured bond.
