Residents in the Kitty Hawk Landing neighborhood helped Coastal NC Alligator Research catch, tag and release an alligator estimated to be about 10 feet long after police officers spotted the animal earlier Monday.

The gator was first sighted Monday in a canal between Pineway Drive and Ivy Lane. The neighborhood is bordered on the east by the Kitty Hawk Woods Coastal Reserve and on the west by the Albemarle Sound.

Residents in the area were advised in a post on the police department’s Facebook page to keep an eye on their children and pets when outside, and to check swimming pools as a precaution.

Police Chief Joel Johnson said the alligator has been spotted a few times in the past.

Ha! That is funny. Florida would have to shut down. Just walk around the alligator.

In the early 1970s, there was one that hung around the Point Harbor Restaurant ( now the Indian place). Folks would throw it food scraps from the deck. It was referred to as Allie Gater

I think all alligators captured should be made into shoes, purses, belts etrc.
