Southern Shores police catch burglary suspect

Southern Shores police caught a suspect they were seeking Sunday morning after an attempted vehicle theft and burglary.

The suspect ran away while police were trying to help him with a medical problem near Hillcrest and Woodland drives at about 2:20 a.m. today, according to a police statement.

A short time later there was an attemped vehicle theft and burglary of an occupied house on Woodland Drive.

Police sent out an alert for residents to keep an eye out for David Santana Alcantar, 27, of Currituck. He was caught at 11:12 a.m.

Alcantar has been charged with two counts of first-degree burglary and larceny of a motor vehicle, both felonies. He also faces misdemeanor chages of damage to real poperty and larceny, according to a police statement.
