A Currituck County man has been charged with second-degree murder after he allegedly supplied drugs to another man who died in Wanchese from a heroin overdose.

Authorities were initially called to the 1000 block of E.R. Daniels Road around 12:48 Monday afternoon for a reported drug overdose, according to a Dare County Sheriffs Office news release.

A woman was treated at the scene by Dare County EMS and the Roanoke Island Fire Department, then taken to The Outer Banks Hospital where she recovered and was released.

Just two hours later, a 40-year-old man was found at the same address in cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead at the scene. The man’s name has not been released.

The Dare County Narcotics Task Force obtained an initial warrant for arrest on a felony charge of sale and/or delivery of heroin against Tyrique Lazara Wise, 32, of Jarvisburg.

Investigators tracked Wise down and placed him under arrest on one count of second-degree murder distribution of drugs. Additional charges are pending in the case.

He was booked into the Dare County Detention Center under a $550,000 secured bond.
