Rose Acre Farms recalls 206 million eggs produced in Hyde Co.

By on April 14, 2018

The Indiana-based company that runs a massive production facility in Hyde County has recalled 206 million eggs that were distributed to grocery stores and restaurants in North Carolina, Virginia and seven other states because of possible contamination by Salmonella.

Rose Acre Farms said the voluntary recall was a result of 22 illnesses reported on the East Coast, which led to extensive interviews and eventually a thorough FDA inspection of the facility.

Three million laying hens produce 2.3 million eggs a day at the facility near Pantego.

The affected eggs, from plant number P-1065 with the Julian date range of 011 through date of 102 printed on either the side portion or the principal side of the carton or package.

Some of the shell eggs were in cartons carrying the Food Lion, Great Value, Country Daybreak, Nelms, Crystal Farms, Coburn Farms, Sunshine Farms and Glenview brands, while others were loose packed for distribution to restaurants, including Waffle House.

Consumers who have purchased the eggs are urged to immediately discontinue use of the recalled eggs and to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Anyone with questions may contact the company at (855) 215-5730 between the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern.

Salmonella Braenderup is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

Healthy individuals infected with Salmonella Braenderup can experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.

In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella Braenderup can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

This makes no sense! Pantego is in Beaufort County!

That is near the convergence of Hyde, Washington and Beaufort. You can drive 1/4 mile on NC 99 and cross three county lines. ZIP Codes and towns/villages cross county lines all the time across the area. Shawboro is a good example. A number of homes have 27929 ZIP Codes but are in Camden County.

Reports are out that place was full of rats, roaches and bird feces. If it’s a fact then replace your lazy people working there and fine them.
