John Phillip Gossman, born June 13, 1952 in Baltimore, MD departed this world for his eternal home on February 20, 2018.

John is survived by his wife, Diane C. Gossman, who will cherish many memories from the last 29 years. He is also survived by his brother, Michael J. Gossman, Jr. and wife Diane of West Chester, PA and his sister, Joan Murphy and husband Larry of Baltimore, MD and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his son, Jon Cory Gossman; his parents Genevieve (Farren) and Michael J. Gossman; his brothers Richard Gossman and Jerry Gossman; and his nephew, Larry Murphy.

John was the owner of Coastal Delivery for the past 25 years. He took much pride in his business and was active until his untimely passing. John was an avid football fan and played semi pro football in Baltimore, MD.

He continued his love for the sport by coaching at Independence Middle School in Virginia Beach, VA for the past 16 years. He was a proud coach who watched his players move on to high school, college and, in some cases, to pro football. He was a mentor to many of his players with whom he stayed in contact with throughout the years.

John also leaves behind six four-legged fur babies whose love was unconditional and whom they will dearly miss.

John was a member of Poplar Branch Baptist Church, Grandy, NC where his love for the Lord grew. His Church family became a huge part of his life and the devotion to one another was undeniable.

Family and friends are invited to a celebration of life to be held at Poplar Branch Baptist Church, 709 Poplar Branch Road, Grandy, NC on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Reverend Tom Meyers will be officiating. All are welcome to attend a reception following the service.

The family would like to thank John’s many friends and co-workers for their help and assistance in this time of need, especially Willie Jackson who has been a devoted friend and employee since day one and, despite any adversities, stood by through thick and thin.
