Local plans differ for Wednesday’s National Student Walkout

Dare County Schools are offering “walk-ins” for students as an alternative to walkouts planned Wednesday across the country to remember those killed last month in Parkland Fla. and to spotlight school safety and gun violence.

Superintendent John Farrelly said Tuesday that teachers were asked to talk to students about their feelings before settling on a plan for gatherings at the county’s middle and high schools to discuss issues growing out of the shooting deaths of 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

“Kids who choose to participate are going to assemble either in a gymnasium or an auditorium or rotunda, and there will be a student-led program for apporoximately 20 minutes,” he said.

The gatherings will give the students a chance to voice their concerns about the shootings, he said, as well as discuss school safety and mental-health issues.

“We think it’s going to be a healthy, respectful, positive process,” he said.

The 10 a.m. National Student Walkout is largely being promoted by Women’s March Youth Empower, which is part of the liberal organization that grew out of the Women’s March on Inauguration weekend. It will last 17 minutes to honor those who died after an intruder opened fired in the school with an assault rifle. A former student with a history of mental health and disciplinary problems has been arrested.

Critics say the walkout is little more than an orchestrated demonstration for gun-control laws.

Other schools around the country are planning similar alternatives to a walkout. Farelly said parents will be alerted to the plan via automated phone calls and e-mails.

Currituck County Superintendent Mark Stefanik said educators will not encourage or discourage students from participating in a walkout but will focus on offering a safe and supportive environment for those who do.

Some students at Currituck High School have organized a walkout to the football field, according to an Instagram post:

CCHS students:: on March 14, the student body will be walking out of class for 17 minutes to honor the victims of the Parkland shooting. We feel that is time for us to have safety in our schools and we must take a stand. We will be walking out to the football field at 10 am. You may stand up and leave class but we do ask that you please not disrupt the ones around you & that you please take these seventeen minutes to honor them in silence. Please consider joining us in honor of Alyssa Alhadeff, Scott Beigel, Martin Duque Anguiano, Nicholas Dworet, Aaron Feis, Jamie Guttenberg, Chris Hixon, Luke Hoyer, Cara Loughran, Gina Montalto, Joaquin Oliver, Alaina Petty, Meadow Pollack, Helena Ramsay, Alex Schachter, Carmen Schentrup and Peter Wang. #enoughisenough @ Currituck County High

All kids shot and killed were with a NRA cult backed AR-15 military assault rifle. Hopefully a lot of these kids will be able to vote this year. NRA more concerned with gun manufacture’s profits over kids lives.

FLOBX, what does a women’s march have to do with our local kids protesting gun violence?

The walkout has been organized by the Women March organization. The same people who support Farrakhan and socialism are organizing these marches to take control of our youth.

Cheers to the school system for supporting students who exercise their right, some might say obligation, to bring further attention to a deadly problem. Signed, NRA member who knows NRA isn’t always right.

I see the same incorrect and provocative language used here as in major media outlets. It was NOT an assault rifle, such things are available only to the military and law enforcement. It was a semi automatic rifle like any other. Putting a pistol grip on a rifle does not an assault rifle make any more than putting a cushioned grip on a baseball bat would make it an assault bat.

I wonder if these concerned students will take a bus or two up to Baltimore or Chicago to protest all those killings? Also, how about all of those killed by those texting or drunk? Those deadly problems.
One thing that is proved by Parkland, do not count on law enforcement to protect you. They can’t. Not enough of them and too many of us. I’ve seen enough killings in gun free zones. Target rich environments.

The group that planned the walkout is a communist organization. Here’s a leak to their mission.

    https://www.womensmarch.com/mission/

They are actively trying to influence the youth of out nation to accept communist view points. Maybe a civics refresher course could help you understand a communist view point.

Protesting and disruption are entirely different tools.

Communist subversion is being used by the left these days.

Its called subversion. Its a typical communist tool used through out history. If you cant see that this is the case then either you are not bright enough or you are actively participating in the subversive activities.

Floyd…..I guess you’re ok with the gas lighting of America though. Seems you’re on board with extreme fascism. You know, attack the media…”Fake News” and other stuff like that. That’s the types of things Autocrats do like Putin.

    Dave

If you think that the current administration is fascist then again you need a civics refresher course. All your talking points are regurgitated parroted quotes from the radical left. No one is falling for your lies and mindless dribble given to you by your communist masters.

Either you are not bright enough to realize you are being lied to or you are willingly repeating known lies to promote communism.

    Dave

You are the enemy of America. No one believes your lies.
Either you are not bright enough to realize that communist subversion is real or you are a willing participant.
