A man and woman from Dare County were seriously injured when they were thrown from their motorcycle on U.S. 158 in Nags Head Sunday evening.

The crash happened at 5:50 p.m. at the intersection of South Croatan Highway and Satterfield Landing Road, according to Nags Head Police Chief Kevin Brinkley.

The operator of the northbound motorcycle tried to stop as the traffic signal as it was changing from yellow to red, went into a skid and lost control, Brinkley said.

Ronald Ray Lee, 54, of Kill Devil Hills, and Pamela Faye Roop, 56, of Kitty Hawk, suffered serious injuries and were initially transported to The Outer Banks Hospital.

Roop was taken later to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital where she was listed in critical condition.

Lee was cited by police for careless and reckless operation of a vehicle and driving while license revoked.
