Village Realty Senior Associate Broker Matt Myatt is well on his way to achieving his goal to become the best in his profession.

Myatt has been named Village Realty’s 2017 Agent of the Year, and was the company’s top-producing sales broker for 2017, according to year-end statistics from the Outer Banks Association of Realtors’ MLS database.

Myatt completed 61 closings last year, for a total of $25.8 million in sales. He has achieved lifetime sales of nearly $182 million.*

A longtime agent with Village Realty, Myatt joined the sales team in 2004, quickly rising in rank among his fellow real estate professionals. By 2009, he was named Village Realty’s Agent of the Year, a title he has now held for nine consecutive years, including 2017.

“Village Realty has always had a hometown ‘feel,’ and I think that’s what people are looking for when they pick a real estate agent,” Myatt said in a press release, explaining why he chose and has stayed with Village Realty.

“If I were to buy here and didn’t know any agents, I’d look for the locally owned company, expecting them to have their pulse on the market better than the larger, corporate operations,” he said.

Myatt has maintained his position within the top 1 percent of Outer Banks agents since 2009. He acknowledged the competitive nature of the real estate industry, and credited the sales team at Village Realty for being more inclined towards cooperation and camaraderie.

“I trust the agents in my office. We’re all competing in the same aggressive market, but we also work very well together,” he said.

For more than a decade, Myatt has helped hundreds of homeowners with their buying and selling needs. “I try to make the process fun, but I’m not afraid to tell them my honest opinion — we’re in this together,” he said.

“I think I’ve been successful because my clients get access to me,” he added. “I don’t list the houses and then hand them off to an assistant. When a client calls, I’m the one who answers the phone and that will never change.”

Myatt’s fondness for the Outer Banks took root during childhood family vacations on the barrier islands. He relocated to the area from his hometown in New Jersey, soon after graduating from Elon University’s Love School of Business. He married his wife Jenny in 2004. The couple live in Southern Shores with their yellow Labrador, Shea.

“In 2004, when I started working in this industry with Village Realty, I was in the office Monday through Friday, trying to grow my business,” Myatt said in the release.

“After work, I’d drive from Corolla to Nags Head, where I held a second job waiting tables. I’d get home around 11 p.m. and do it all over again the next day,” he recalled. “I knew it would be worth it eventually – now I can say it was.”
