Brandi Combs started working for Dare County in 1989.

Brandi Combs, accounting technician in the Finance Department, is the Dare County Employee of the Month for February. Finance Director David Clawson presented the award to Combs at the Feb. 5 meeting of the Dare County Board of Commissioners.

Combs joined the county in 1989 as a clerk in the Public Works Department and transferred to finance in 1996. As accounting technician, she is responsible for all of the county’s payment transactions, including checks, electronic funds transactions, and purchasing cards.

During the presentation, Clawson pointed out that Combs has worked to move the county away from check writing to other forms of less expensive payment methods such as purchasing cards. According to Clawson, Combs does an excellent job overseeing a system that requires numerous controls and precise account coding.

Combs also makes recommendations for improving the county’s financial policies, according to a Dare County press release. Clawson pointed out that four of the five policy recommendations currently on his desk were made by Combs.

Some of the words and phrases used by coworkers to describe Combs are “communicates, cooperates, looks for new assignments, uses good judgment, productive, efficient, reliable, takes initiative, offers assistance, little supervision needed and very well liked,” the press release said.

During the nomination process, another coworker said, “With Brandi’s professionalism and pleasant approach to everyone and everything, she turns unpleasant days into good ones.”
