By on February 8, 2018

N.C. Department of Transporation Division 1 engineer Jerry Jennings told the Dare County Board of Commissioners Monday morning that completion of the new Bonner Bridge over Oregon Inlet is currently on schedule to open to traffic before the end of 2018.

Demolition of the old bridge will take around one year to finish, according to Jennings.

Removal of the steel temporary bridge over the breech of Pea Island caused by Hurricane Irene in 2011 has been completed, and a dedication ceremony for the new Capt. Richard Etheridge Bridge will be held Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 1 p.m. at the Rodanthe-Waves-Salvo Community Building.
