Marcia Bryant, vice-president of clinical operations; Summer Carmichael, Employee of the Month; Tony Buzzacco, Emergency Department director; and Rebecca Eilert, assistant nurse manager, Emergency Department.

Summer Carmichael, a staff nurse in the Emergency Department, is The Outer Banks Hospital’s January Employee of the Month.

Carmichael joined the hospital in September, 2016.

“Summer came to the ED with a very strong background in emergency nursing, having worked in several areas of the country. Her patient care, teamwork and leadership skills were noticeable from the beginning,” said Tony Buzzacco, emergency department director.

“These skills are the reason she has advanced into a Charge Nurse position in the ED,” he added.

The ability to maintain proper flow, assign patients to appropriate personnel, and make quick decisions are all traits Carmichael possesses that make her an excellent asset in the busy emergency department, according to a press release from the hospital.

Carmichael displays compassion, integrity and respect for all patients. Her great attitude and intelligence make her a joy to work with, the release said. In addition, Carmichael’s professionalism and ability to remain cool and calm during high-stress, difficult situations has earned her the respect of the hospital police force.
