James Vernon Andrews of Kill Devil Hills, Jan. 10

James Vernon Andrews of Kill Devil Hills, NC passed away suddenly on Wednesday, January 10, 2018, at the age of 80 with his lifetime friend and companion by his side. He was born in Athens, Alabama, on June 10, 1937.

Jim was a graduate of Hampton High School in Hampton, VA and served in the United States Air Force. He moved to Dare County in 1971 where he opened Design, LTD in Manteo, NC at that time. He followed by founding Vista Florist in Manteo, NC along with The Pet Gallery in Nags Head, NC. At the time of his death, he was employed by Island Woodcrafts of Kill Devil Hills, NC.

Jim is survived by his husband, John Johnson; sister, Judy Turner (Ronald); his children, Martin Andrews (Mark), Jennifer Lewis (Chuck), and Michael Andrews (Donna); along with his two grandsons, Evan and Kyle, of which he was extremely proud and fond of. He also leaves behind his cherished pets, Sheldon and Amy. He was preceded in death by his father, Vernon Andrews; mother, Christanthy Willett; and grandson, Timothy Lewis.


There will be a visitation at Twiford Colony Chapel, 500 Budleigh St, Manteo, NC, on Monday, January 15, 2018, from 5:00 – 7:00 pm. The family will receive friends at the residence of Michael Andrews (153 Old County Rd, Manteo, NC) following. The funeral service will be private.
