A single vehicle crash late Tuesday afternoon on U.S. 158 in Kitty Hawk cut power to about one thousand Dominion Power customers for several hours.

Kitty Hawk Police Chief Joel Johnson said the driver of the vehicle had a medical emergency, which led to the collision with a Dominion Power service box on the ground near Duck Woods Drive.

Johnson said the driver was taken to The Outer Banks Hospital for treatment, while a passenger was not hurt. Power was restored around 6 p.m.
