Jimmie Tucker Daniels of Wanchese, Jan. 4

Jimmie Tucker Daniels, 82, went peacefully to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 4, 2018, at his home. A native of Wanchese, Jimmie was the son of the late Llewellyn and Vara Midgett Daniels.

A retired building contractor who built many homes in the Dare County area, Jim later turned to commercial fishing where he owned and operated a trawl boat named The Surprise.

After a decade on the high seas, Jimmie returned home to crab and fish the local sounds. He also worked for Island Woodcraft for many years before retiring.

Jimmie was a member of Wanchese Assembly of God. He loved baseball, traveling, fishing, and he loved to tell tall tales about all of it. Most of all Jimmie loved his family and God.

In addition to his parents, Jimmie was predeceased by his grandson, Jeremy Taylor.

Jimmie is survived by his wife of 63 years, Merle Wescott Daniels; five daughters, Debbie Keel and husband Paul of Wachula, FL, Vicki Simpson and husband Rex, Lori Ricotta and husband Gilbert, Lenie Taylor and husband Tom, and Lou Ellen Quinn and husband Syd, all of Wanchese; fifteen grandchildren, Paul Keel II, Carrie Orozco, Missy Dejarnette, Zeke Simpson, Hannah East, Tucker Simpson, Billy Barrera, Shaun Barrera, Tonya Seate, Caroline Cates, Brandon Taylor, Shanna Taylor, Mary V. Quinn, Lauren Quinn, and Sarah Kate Quinn; seventeen great-grandchildren; a sister, Myra Thompson of Wanchese; and a brother Llewellyn Daniels Midgett of Chesapeake, VA.

A funeral will be held at 3:00 pm on Monday, January 8, 2018, at Wanchese Assembly of God with Pastor Mark Hinson and Pastor Kenny Midgett officiating. Burial will be private in the Cudworth Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives an hour before the service at the church and welcomes everyone to the home of Jim and Merle following the service.
