Julie Tillett, an occupational health nurse, is the Outer Banks Hospital’s December Employee of the Month.

Tillett joined the hospital in 2009 as a case manager, and moved to her current role in May, 2015.

Since becoming an occupational health nurse, Tillett has developed her role in incredible ways, and has achieved 100 percent compliance for the required employee flu vaccines and annual health and wellness screenings, a press release from the hospital said.

Her willingness to go above and beyond is a large part of what took OBH to 100 percent compliance, according to the release, which added that Tillett is happy to adjust her schedule so that she can quickly accommodate any team member.

Tillett’s co-workers describe her as having a relaxed, easy style that makes everyone feel instantly comfortable. Her warm eyes, huge heart, and amazing ability to listen are just a few of the things her peers value about her, according to the release.

Tillett is able to gain the trust of her co-workers, many of whom find it comforting to have a compassionate caregiver with whom they can share personal and emotional stories, the press release said. She also has a knack for finding ways to motivate others just when they need it most.

In additional to her occupation health duties, Tillett co-chairs the Employee Wellness Committee. As part of the committee, she works to promote a healthy workplace environment for her co-workers, implementing special events such as health fairs and farmer’s markets for employees.

“I was totally surprised to be nominated as Employee of the Month,” Tillett said.

“My position is unique because I am responsible for the health and safety of the hospital employees,” she added. “I love coming to work and promoting health and wellness to my co-workers.”
