Dare to Scare 5k & Fun Run raises more than $3K for toy drive

Dare County’s first Dare to Scare 5k & Sweet Treat Fun Run, held Oct. 28, raised more than $3,000 for the Dare County Center’s annual Toy Drive.

More than 75 runners participated in the inaugural event. The 5K race got underw ay at the Coastal Studies Institute in Skyco and ended at the Dare County Center, 3.1 miles away.

Runners were urged to dress in their Halloween best.


The top female finisher of the 5K was Courtney Gallop of Nags Head, and the top male finisher was Paul Vrhovac of Kill Devil Hills.

If you missed the race but would still like to help with the center’s annual toy drive, donations of new, unwrapped toys for children, or money to purchase toys, will be accepted through Friday, Dec. 8, at the Dare County Center, 950 Marshall C. Collins Drive, in Manteo.
