Myra Meekins of Stumpy Point, Nov. 18

Myra Meekins, 88, of Stumpy Point, NC went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 18, 2017. She was the daughter of Dick and Goldie Best and the widow of James Meekins.

Myra is survived by her children, Cookie Midgett and husband John, James “Dickie” Meekins and wife, Pamela, and Holly Meekins; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Candy Gay, Luke Midgett, Emily Meekins, Clint and Caroline Gay, and Lexi and Noah Midgett; and a wonderful sister, Gracie Lockamy and husband Allen. She loved all her family and friends and had a special place in her heart for Rita Midgett, Dal Gray, Bev Prince, and Mamie Morris.

Myra attended East Carolina University and was a substitute teacher for many years at Manteo Elementary School. She worked in the Head Start Program, at the Elizabethan Gardens and was a faithful Holtine volunteer for over 20 years.


Myra was dedicated to her church serving as a Sunday School teacher and superintendent, lay leader, and devoting herself to the United Methodist Women. She was also a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Courtesy of the Navy, Myra traveled and lived around the world with her husband of 55 years, Jim. She had many fabulous stories of her adventures and shared them around her kitchen table along with wonderful food and fellowship.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, November 29, 2017, at Shiloh United Methodist Church in Stumpy Point with Pastor Pam Stoffel officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.
