The Dare County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a suspect in as attempted strong-armed robbery of a woman over the weekend outside her Roanoke Island home.

According to Sheriff Doug Doughtie, the incident happened Saturday at around 9:28 p.m. in the 100 block of George Tom Court in Manteo.

“A manager of a local business was in the process of entering their residence when the suspect made contact with the victim and attempted to take the victim’s purse and shoulder bag,” Doughtie said.

The woman held on to her belongings after being struck and may have also hit the suspect during the struggle before getting away and screaming for help. The suspect ran away, Doughtie added.

The suspect is described as a late teen or early 20s white male with blonde hair and blue eyes. The suspect may have a mark or bruise from the altercation.

Anyone in the area saw something suspicious or has home video surveillance that may have captured the suspect is asked to contact Sheriff’s Office Investigator Brent Doughtie at (252) 473-7611.

“The Dare County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind everyone to remain vigilante especially with Christmas season approaching,” Doughtie said.
