Defending 2A state champion First Flight won the Men’s Soccer East Region Championship for the fourth time in school history Tuesday night, claiming a 1-0 victory over East Duplin.

Vega Sproul banged in a header during a mad scramble in front of the net with 28 minutes left in the second half, giving the Nighthawks the game’s only goal.

East Duplin had an equalizing goal wiped out by an offsides call with 19 minutes to play.

First Flight is back in the title match for a second straight year and fourth time in the last five seasons. The Nighthawks will face Newton-Conover this Saturday at N.C. State University’s Dail Soccer Complex in Raleigh.
