Food Lion is voluntarily recalling homestyle chicken tenders sold in the deli of several local stores, and others across North Carolina and Virginia.

“(The) manufacturer has alerted us that the product contains an unlisted ingredient, milk, which could be life-threatening if consumed by individuals with an allergy to dairy,” according to a post on the grocery chain’s website.

The recall includes cold chicken tenders produced in store with a sell by date of 10/16/17 through 10/20/17, and hot chicken tenders with a sell by date of 10/16/17.

The recall includes the stores in Ahoskie, Corolla, Moyock, Grandy, Edenton, the Weeksville Road location in Elizabeth City, and the store at milepost 10.5 in Nags Head.

Customers who purchased the tenders, sold in packages ranging from four to 12, should not consume the product and may return it to their local Food Lion store for a full refund.
