Small townhouse project OK’d between the highways in KDH

A total of 11 bedrooms is planned.

Five townhouses are planned on a 15,852-square-foot lot between the highways in Kill Devil Hills.

On Monday, the KDH Board of Commissioners approved the plans submitted by Florida OBX LLC for the lot at 111 Carolyn Drive.

A total of 11 bedrooms will be in the five units, and 11 parking spaces are planned.

The lot, which is valued at $256,500 in Dare County tax records, is listed as being owned by John Robins in the application submitted to the town.

Outer Banks Renovation and Construction, owned by David Phillip Meggs, will build the townhouses, according to the application.

The lot is on the south side of the street. Pizza Hut is on the corner of U.S. 158 and Carolyn Drive and the Ramada Inn is on the Oceanfront at the east end.

This is simply a 5 townhouse project in a part of town that allows residential townhouses. It does push the limits but is totally legal. What is wrong with that ?
Everyone living here, in Kill Devil Hills, the spot you are at once was platted as a lot part of a subdivision maybe in the 50’s and at some point was purchased and built upon to to allow you to be here. Welcome !
All suggestions on better town development regulations are welcome and encouraged.

Seems out of place for a townhouse. KDH needs to end those 24 bedroom homes too. You’all need a real change in direction in KDH. Since Woodard left there is a gap in good judgement in KDH.

This sucks … There are areas on the westside where there is only 1 home on a 15,000 square foot lot and they are really nice and proportional properties. How can putting 5 townhomes on the same size lot be a good thing. What about ground cover. FLOBX did a larger scale in Corolla and it really isn’t that great.

Granted, there are only 3 comments here so far as I write this, but I would wager to say if there were 500 or 1,000, they would be predominantly the same – HELL NO! How is it that this kind of stuff passes the Board without public support? NM, I know the answer.

IT IS ALMOST NOVEMBER KDH RESIDENTS! You need to run the KDH Board of Commissioners out of town on a rail, as it were, by casting your votes for candidates that are not on the development train.

Bad move. It looks like they are building on 3 lots, which means almost double the number of cars as would have been there if single family homes were built. The allowance of 11 spots for townhouses is way to low. There are always more cars than bedrooms on the houses in my neighborhood.

As I have said before the towns and county will never be satisfied until every last area of ground is covered at maximum density. How crappy is if you live a single-family neighborhood and you get townhouses next door.Higher density ruins everything.
