Lieutenant Dan McCallum with Emergency Medical Services is the September 2017 Dare County Employee of the Month.

Dare County EMS Chief Jennie Collins presented McCallum with the award at the Board of Commissioners meeting Sept. 18.

McCallum began his career with Dare County EMS in 2004, when he was hired as an EMT Paramedic. According to Collins, McCallum was promoted to the rank of EMT lieutenant earlier this year because of the high level of dedication to excellence that he demonstrates in his work on a daily basis.

“Dan was nominated by his colleagues in the EMS Department because they wanted to acknowledge how every day he comes to work and consistently provides support for his employees. He is an advocate for them when needed and he is extremely dedicated to training,” Collins said during the presentation.

McCallum is a training instructor for the EMS Department, a paramedic, a certified flight paramedic with the Dare Medflight program and an instructor for the EMT class at College of The Albemarle. His wide variety of experience within the department makes him a valuable asset.

“Dan is very willing to give feedback to our new employees, and as we have done some new hiring, he helps acclimate new employees into our program. Providing that feedback and support is extremely helpful to new members of our department,” Collins said.
