Patrick Parson lands 47-inch drum to win Mulford tourney

By on October 1, 2017

Patrick Parsons holds up what turned out to be the first place winning red drum in the annual Jim Mulford Memorial Red Drum Tournament held Saturday at Jennette’s Pier in Nags Head.

Parsons, who often works as a catering chef with Mulligan’s at pier events, won a donated $400 Seigler reel, an annual fishing pass valued at $300 from Barbara Mulford and a double-stack trophy from the pier.

Ms. Mulford also donated three pairs of day fishing passes. Mr. Mulford worked as a security guard at Jennette’s for five or so years before he passed away.

The 47.75-inch long fish had a 26.5-inch girth and was released immediately after this photo was taken by Pier staffer Steve Fowler. Nearly 100 people fished the event, a new record for the pier.
