Parade of Homes spotlights character, diversity of towns

The Outer Banks Voice is partnering with the Outer Banks Homebuilders Association to  provide readers a look at the stars of this year’s Parade of Homes. Look for profiles of the homes in the Voice during the next two weeks. Here  is the welcome letter by association President Jake Overton.

The Outer Banks Home Builders Association’s 25th Annual Parade of Homes opens at 10 a.m. on Oct. 5 and runs through 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 8, 2017. It is a Parade with an identity all its own.

As a scattered site tour, it allows you to see spectacular homes and take in the beauty of about 50 miles of our beautiful Outer Banks coastline at the same time, and to absorb some of the local flavor.

The character and diversity of our small towns will become apparent as you tour. You will see the diversity of this year’s Parade homes as reflective of the people who live, work, vacation and invest here.

To make it easy for you, we provide a detailed map and driving directions in the center of the Parade magazine and on our website, allowing for a touch of road rally/scavenger hunt but at your own pace. Most attendees take at least two days to take the tour and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of the autumn days following a hectic tourist season. Your ticket is good for all four days, so you can see it all at your leisure.

Our participating builders and our local REALTOR® members are always happy to assist you and discuss your best options for investment, relocation as a year-round resident, or a transition to retirement. Or maybe you just want to own a true second home sanctuary to which you can escape whenever you wish.

You can personally experience the entire spectrum of homes – from cute and cozy starter homes to those with features and amenities you didn’t know existed. This year’s collection offers homes from 1,600 to 10,646 square feet of living space – making it fair to say that we have something for everyone! You will meet builders who can build you a brand new 1846 square foot home with a pool for less than $300,000 or custom build a two million dollar estate.

The majority of our builders on the Outer Banks have many years of coastal building experience and know how to choose products and building methods that hold up best in our sometimes harsh coastal climate as well as those which least impact our fragile environment. The incorporation of smart product options and green features, combined with our members’ commitment to the structural integrity of a home is evident in the finished product that is not only efficient, practical and durable but eye-catching and attractive as well.

When you purchase your ticket at any of the homes or from a sponsor’s location, you will receive the Parade of Homes magazine, containing all the information about the builders, their homes, the locations and the products.

The tour is also found in its entirety at our website,, so you can easily preview the offerings and determine your route in advance if you like to plan ahead. Your $10 ticket is good for all four days of the tour and proceeds benefit the local food pantry and other local charitable efforts. Take your time, talk with the builders and their representatives in the homes and most of all, enjoy your time on the Outer Banks!
